How to publish your Toy Catalogue to your Website

ToyBase version 7.0.94 introduces a simpler mechanism for publishing your toy catalogue onto your website.  It also introduces a new feature that allows you to publish separate branches to separate websites!  This article explains the process.  The article looks long but you only need to read it once – after everything is setup there is only one button to push each time you want to update your website.

Before you begin – please ensure that you:

  • have asked me to create your website (a signup form will appear soon – for now please email me)
  • have received the editor address of your website from me in an email.  You will need to copy/paste this into ToyBase. The editors address looks like http://toybase:shhh1234@example.toylibrary.info and consists of these parts:
    • http://  - all websites start with this
    • toybase – the name of the website editor – you will have an account, and so will ToyBase!
    • shhh1234 – the password only known by ToyBase
    • @
    • example.toylibrary.info  - the website address of your catalogue

To get started, connect your PC to the Internet and then run ToyBase and choose the Publish menu:

Publish ToyBase Catalogue

Click the Publish your catalogue menu.  The new publication dialogue will appear.  Upon using this for the first time you will have to enter the address of your website – but ToyBase will remember all of the details and so the next time you only have to push one large button to start the publication process.

If you have a single toy library and do not run ‘branches’, or you have several branches that you want published to the same single website:

Enter the single catalogue website address opposite the ‘ALL*’ branches label:

Publish all branches to website

Click the large [Publish your catalogue] button and watch the countdown as your website is published!  The first time, ToyBase will publish all items.  The second time, it will only update the items that have changed and so it will run much quicker.

If you have branches that you want published to different websites:

Do not enter anything against the ‘ALL*’ branch.  Instead, enter the different website addresses against the branch labels and click the large [Publish your catalogue] button:

Here you can see that:

  • all toys in the main branch (called Base) are going to the website  http://example.toylibrary.info
  • all toys in my mobile centre (called BUS) are going to the website http://mobilebus.toylibrary.info

If you are using the network of a local council:

You might not have a direct connection to the Internet.   Hopefully you will never have to read this section.  Only read it if ToyBase cannot contact your catalogue when you follow the instructions above.

If  ToyBase cannot connect to your website, read this article that explains how to find your proxy server address (or ask your friendly I.T or Network support group) and enter this code against the PROXY label as shown here:
